Sony is not leaving the smartphone market and will continue to release them for at least a few more years.

Sony has recently released a few new products among smartphones, and even those are not in great demand among users. Sales are falling, so a logical question arises: is the company going to completely leave the smartphone market after LG and HTC?

What to expect

Interestingly, the answer to this question was not given by Sony, but by Qualcomm. The chipmaker announced in a new press release that it is expanding its collaboration with Sony for Snapdragon platforms that will power the Japanese company’s future smartphones. This is a “multi-year” deal, and it covers premium, high-end and mid-range devices.

It follows from this that Sony will continue to release smartphones for at least the next few years. But the company appears to be continuing its existing lineups as they are, meaning without budget devices.

«Xperia 1 V, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, has been very well received by customers. We look forward to continuing our work with Qualcomm Technologies to provide a premium and compelling experience for future Snapdragon smartphones. We are always listening to our customers to develop cutting-edge technologies that meet and exceed their expectations, and we believe that Qualcomm Technologies will help us continue to move the industry forward.”, – said Tsutomu Hamaguchi (Tsutomu Hamaguchi), head of Sony’s mobile communications division.
