The Swiss authorities have agreed on the resale of Leopard 2 main battle tanks. The buyer is the German concern Rheinmetall.

What is known

Switzerland has decommissioned 96 German Leopard 2 tanks. They are now in storage. The armed forces may decommission 25 combat vehicles for resale to the German company Rheinmetall.

The Swiss National Council passed this decision by 132 votes to 59. The proposal did not receive support from the faction of the Swiss People’s Party. Some deputies of the Free Democratic Party also voted against.

Switzerland can do without 25 tanks. This was stated by Minister of Defense Viola Amherd (Viola Amherd). The head of the defense department also added that Leopard 2 will not be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
