The Chinese are quietly selling sanctioned NVIDIA A100 chips for ,000 instead of ,000

Since last fall, the US government has completely banned the export of NVIDIA A100 and H100 chips to China. Despite this, they can be bought, but with restrictions.

What is known

Yes, the chips are not officially sold in China, but this does not mean that they cannot be purchased. By the way, NVIDIA created the A800 and H800 chips as analogues of the A100 and H100, respectively, but with several times lower performance. However, our story is not about that.

Reuters correspondents visited a large electronics market in Shenzhen. After talking with local sellers, they received at least 10 offers to sell NVIDIA A100 chips. In this case, we are talking about a small batch, and the price is $20,000 instead of $10,000. There is no guarantee.

NVIDIA chips, the supply of which is prohibited by sanctions, enter China in two ways. The first channel – thanks to intermediaries from India, Taiwan or Singapore. The second channel is when large companies send chips to the American market that are not needed. Through “gray” suppliers, the products go to China.

The NVIDIA H100 is almost impossible to find in China as they only appeared a few months ago. Chips are found on popular Chinese Internet sites, but this is used by attackers who sell fakes.
