The German army has adopted a new version of the German Leopard 2 tank. The combat vehicle is called the Leopard 2A7V.

What is known

Leopard 2A7V is considered one of the most protected modern tanks. It has modular composite armor that provides protection to the fighters. The crew consists of four people: commander, gunner, driver and loader.

Armor is able to protect the crew from various types of threats. For example, from anti-tank missiles, improvised explosives, mines and anti-tank grenade launchers.

Leopard 2A7V received a 120 mm L / 55 cannon developed by Rheinmetall. With its help, the tank can hit enemy targets with Rheinmetall DM53 APFSDS-T ammunition. You can also use sub-caliber shells with depleted uranium.

Another feature is the ability to use new tank ammunition DM 11. Their feature is an adaptable fuse, which allows you to effectively destroy armored vehicles and manpower in open space or in shelters. The maximum firing range is 5 km.

The Leopard 2A7V is equipped with the new ATTICA-GL thermal imager for the gunner and the ATTICA-Z thermal imager for the commander. They are developed by the German company Hensoldt. Thermal imagers significantly increase the detection and identification range compared to previous generation models. In addition, the tank has Hensoldt SPECTUS II optics for night operations.

The combat vehicle is equipped with a MB 873 diesel engine. The maximum speed is 63 km/h. The tank also has a reinforced transmission that can withstand additional loads without compromising service life.
