Some Microsoft Team users reported that when they tried calling someone from their organization or externally, they are shown unavailable. Even though they know for a fact that the person they are calling is on Teams, they just couldn’t. In this post, we will discuss this in detail and see what you can do if the person you’re trying to reach isn’t available in Teams.
The person you’re trying to reach isn’t available in Teams
If the person you’re trying to reach isn’t available in Teams, follow the solutions mentioned below.
- Set Coexistence Mode to Teams only or Start Skype for Business
- Log out and log back in
- Update MS Teams to the latest version
- Reset or Repair Microsoft Teams
- Use the MS Teams website for the time being
Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Set Coexistence Mode to Teams only or start Skype for Business
If the person you are contacting has set the Coexistence Mode to Island Mode. The Island Mode will only allow communication within the organization. In that case, if an external person is trying to contact you, they won’t be able to do so. So, in order for an external Teams user to contact you, you need to switch to the Teams only mode. Follow the steps given below to do the same.
- Open Teams admin center.
- Navigate to Users > Manager Users.
- Go to Accounts > Teams upgrade and click on Edit.
- Select Teams Only in the Coexistence mode field.
- Finally, click on the Save button.
This will do the job for you.
In case, for some reason, you are unable to make these changes, start Skype for Business. That’s because the Teams app is configured such that it doesn’t without Skype.
2] Log out and log back in
Sometimes all the affected user needs to log out and then log back in. That’s because the changes made from the admin center are not applied during an active session. However, this situation is seldom, we should still log out and then log back in. This will do the trick for you.
3] Update MS Teams to the latest version
Sometimes, the call does not connect due to a mismatch of versions or some bug. In both cases, the best we can do is update MS Teams to the latest version. To do the same, follow the steps given below.
- Open MS Teams.
- Click on the three dots and select Settings.
- Go to About Teams and install the update if it is available.
Finally, check if the issue is resolved.
4] Repair or Reset Microsoft Teams
At times, Microsoft Teams app gets corrupted or has some misconfiguration due to which, the call is not made. Microsoft is well aware of this situation and hence has given options to repair or reset the Teams app. Follow the steps given below to do the same.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Search for “Microsoft Teams”, click on the three dots, and click on Advanced Options.
- Now, click on the Repair button.
Once done, check if the issue is resolved. In case, repairing doesn’t work, go to the same settings panel and click on the Reset button.
5] Use the MS Teams website for the time being
If there are no updates available, you should use the website version of Teams to call as you should wait for the updates. Also, according to a lot of reports, the Teams website works perfectly even though the app is showing tantrums.
Hopefully, this will do the job for you/
Why does Teams keep showing me as unavailable?
If Teams is showing you as unavailable, you can change it manually. It is pretty simple to do so, open the app, click on your profile, go to the icon, and select Available which should be green. So, you will be shown as available to everyone who tries to contact you.
What does it mean when it says someone is trying to reach you in Microsoft Teams?
When someone messages you and you are offline, you get a mail saying that someone is trying to reach you, it says “Your teammates are trying to reach you in Microsoft Teams”. You can then open your app and revert back to them. If you don’t like these updates, you can contact your IT admin and ask them to prohibit these notifications.
