Recently, the Polish government announced that it was going to transfer PT-91 Twardy tanks to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now information has appeared that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already undergoing a training program on their use.
What is known
The In Factum Telegram channel published a photo and video of a Ukrainian soldier on a PT-91 Twardy tank. When exactly the photo and video was taken is unknown. By the way, Ukraine should receive 50-60 PT-91 Twardy tanks. Deliveries of equipment should begin in the near future.
For those who are not in the know
Recall that the PT-91 is a Polish main battle tank based on a licensed version of the Soviet T-72M1. The first PT-91 prototypes were made in 1993. The basic version of the tank was mass-produced at the Bumar-Labendy plant from 1995 to 2002. The main feature of the PT-91 is the Twardy protection using ERAWA’s own active armor. It has 394 blocks. They cover the front of the hull and the turret. These blocks are placed almost without gaps to each other. Tests have shown that ERAWA blocks increase the tank’s security by 30-70%, depending on the type of projectile.
