US deploys B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bombers to Indonesia for the first time in history

The US Air Force recently returned B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bombers to the Indo-Pacific region. The planes arrived on the island of Guam, after which they visited Indonesia for the first time in history.

What is known

The United States continues to carry out joint actions with partners in the Indo-Pacific region amid concerns about a possible conflict in the region involving China. The US Air Force has not yet disclosed the details of sending the B-52H to Indonesia.

OSINT specialists reported that the Stratofortress landed at Kualanamu International Airport. Later, the Indonesian Air Force confirmed the arrival of two nuclear bombers, which arrived in the country, accompanied by F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters.

B-52H arrived in Indonesia from the Andersen base on the island of Guam. The home of strategic aviation aircraft is the Minot Air Force Base, which is located in North Dakota.

It is assumed that nuclear bombers can take part in joint exercises between the United States and Indonesia. The event, called Cope West 2023, began last week and will run until June 23rd. The exercise involved six American F-16 fighters and 100 military personnel, as well as seven aircraft of the Indonesian Air Force.
