What’s a Google One VPN ? Everything that you need to know..

Since its inception, Google has been preaching data security and privacy. And while many bash Google for not practicing what it’s preaching, we can certainly do with some reassurance and peace of mind. The new VPN — Virtual Private Network — Google’s service promises exactly that.

It’s still early days and there’s a lot to learn about the service, but we’re sure to see the potential in Google’s latest offering. So, with that thought in mind, let’s learn all about the Google One VPN service.

What is Google One?

Google One is Google’s pay service cloud storage plan, which comes into play after the initial 15 GB — which is offered for free to all Google users — is exhausted by users. This storage is shared with Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. So, if you’ve got a bunch of high-quality photos on Google Photos and a few more on Drive, you might need to upgrade to a paid Google One package sooner than later.

Currently, Google One offers three options for different user sets—100 GB, 200 GB, or 2 TB. The first two plans should easily serve regular users, while the last one would cater to more advanced content creators and developers.

What is Google One VPN ?

Just as the name suggests, Google One’s VPN is Google’s proprietary VPN service that is deeply intertwined with its Google One subscription plan, costing $10 (or more). The VPN service is Google’s first attempt to create a secure tunnel, but it’s not available to anyone outside the Google One ecosystem.

So, at least for the time being, only premium users of Google One can access the VPN, and, at the time of writing, only Android users in the US can access it.

 Availability Google One VPN

As the name suggests, Google’s newly launched VPN service is deeply linked to the Google One subscription. However, all paid users of Google One will not be able to use the VPN service. Only those with a 2 TB plan or higher have the privilege of using Google’s first-ever VPN. So, unless you already use the 2 TB plan or plan to upgrade, you won’t be able to reap the benefits of the VPN service.

Google VPN will only be available to users who have subscribed to the 2 TB Plan. However, this does not mean that the VPN service is available to all users around the globe. As per Google, the service comes first to the United States and is not available anywhere else. Fortunately, Google has assured us that the service will eventually be distributed to other areas.

Google One is Available for Iphone ?

In addition, and more interestingly, the VPN service is reserved for Android devices only. So, if you’re on iOS or any other system, you’re not going to have the privilege of using Google One.

How Much does the Google One VPN cost ?

If you’re looking for a 2 TB plan on Google One, you’d be happy to know that the new VPN service would be made available to you for free. No extra charges, no hidden clauses — Google 2 TB One subscription is all you need to enjoy a newly launched VPN service. That being said, the 2 TB subscription plan comes in at $9.99 per month in the United States, which is not affordable for all users.

Can We share the Google One VPN with Family Members ?

Google has always been a big fan of family sharing, and it’s great to see the trend spread to the Google One VPN service as well. If you have a TB 2 plan and want to share it with your family members, you could do that very easily.

All you need to do is download the Google One app on all Android devices — six, maximum — and enable the service, one by one. If you do not exceed the limit and log in with the right credential, the Google One VPN service should work as intended.
