From now on you will have to open the links of your Outlook emails with Edge, unless you manually select another browser in the configuration of the Microsoft email client.

Microsoft wants you to use its Edge browser anyway: it will force you to open Outlook links with it
Microsoft forces you to open Outlook links with Edge

Over the past few years, Microsoft has been turning windows in an operating system that is less and less open and, therefore, more proprietary, since it is increasingly common for this does not allow you to choose a specific configuration and forces you to abide by the default option which is enabled by default.

This is what just happened with Outlook, Microsoft’s email manager, as the Redmond-based company has just announced via their support website that all Outlook links will open by default with Edge browser.

Outlook links will open with Edge, even if your default browser is different

This means that, from now on, Outlook will ignore the configuration we have on our computer and it will open all the links in Microsoft Edge, even though we have set another browser as Google Chrome the default brave.

Therefore, the only way to get them to open in another browser is to open the Microsoft Outlook for Windows application and follow these simple steps:

  • Tap on the option Archive which is located in the upper left corner of the app
  • Click on the button Options which appears in the bottom left
  • In the pop-up window, click Advanced
  • Finally, in the section Link management open the dropdown that says “Microsoft Edge”, select the option Default browser and click on the button Accept

Microsoft is selling this novelty as an improvement in the synergy between email and the browser, since users will be able to get more out of the Edge sidebar because they will have the original email in said bar and the content of the link in the tab they have openbut rather it seems an imposition that seeks to increase the number of Edge users.

In addition, this will not be the only Microsoft application that will follow the path of Outlook, since the American company plans to do the same, soon, with Teams.
