-

clear up space on windows 10 – Need your Windows computer to clear disk space? Here are files and folders from Windows which can be deleted securely to free up disk space.

Windows has lots of files and folders you really don’t need. It is difficult to remove from Windows what is safe between hidden caches, old Junk that space washes, and files you can delete to solves problems.

Let’s take a few Windows files and folders that are entirely secure to delete and why you may want to delete them. This helps you free disk space and find out more about your PC. Be careful when deleting certain of the folders are in a secure location.

The Best Way to Clean Windows Folders: Cleaning Disk

You should be aware that manual deletion of Windows files and folders is usually not the best way to do this before we examine them.

In addition to wastage, it’s safe to let the Disk Cleanup tool clean for you if you can automate the process. This prevents the accidental deletion of the required files or the mistaken folder messages.

The Windows Disk Cleanup tool helps you to retrieve your computer disk space and is easy to use. You can open it through the Start menu and select a drive by looking for Disk Cleanup. Scan it and you will see multiple file categories you can delete. Select Clean up system files with administrator permissions for additional options.

If you think the interface is too clunky, then try Windows 10’s newer storage cleanup tool at Settings > System > Storage. You will see a list of files that resemble what Disk Cleanup has. Click Temporary files on the options list.

Disk Cleanup – What to Delete ?

This isn’t a complete guide to the Cleanup Disc so we won’t check each option. But there are several options below (make sure that you first select System Files to Clean up to see all of them):

Cleanup Windows Update: This deletes old file copies of the Windows Update. You can mostly delete these, however, if you run into update-related issues you should keep them for troubleshooting.

Windows upgrade log files: these data files also help you dig into trouble with upgrades or installations. Windows upgrade log files. If you have not had Windows upgrade-related errors, you can remove them – drive cleaner windows 10

Resource Files for Language: If you have downloaded another language or keyboard layout before that, it can be easily deleted.

Recycle Bin: Whilst the Recycle Bin can be emptied from its own window, it is easy here too. Just make sure that you don’t have anything inside.

Temporary files : As their name implies, temporary files will not be used in the long run to delete them without any concern.

Now, let’s see what you can safely remove from Windows 10.

Windows Temp FolderLocation: C:\Windows\Temp

Windows temporary files are no more important than their initial use, you might imagine. The inside files and folders contain information which Windows once used, but no longer needs.

Rather than cleaning through Disk Cleanup. If you like, you can visit this directory and manually delete its contents. Just click on Ctrl + A to select all inside and then click Delete. Windows might make you mistaken for a number of items, just ignore them and clear them all.

Windows.old FolderC:\Windows.old

Whenever you upgrade your Windows version, the system will maintain a copy of Windows.old, your previous files. This folder contains essentially all of your old installation if something has not been correctly transferred.

If necessary, this folder can be used to revert to the previous Windows version. The folder can also be opened and some stray files can be collected if necessary.

Windows removes this folder automatically shortly after upgrading, but if you are crunched for space, you can remove it yourself. If you try to go through the File Explorer it will not be removed, so enter Disk Cleanup into the Start menu and start the tool as previously described.

Click Clean system files at the end of the window and allow the utility to scan again. After that, check the previous installation(s) of Windows and delete it with this tool.

Obviously, it is hard to remove these files if there is a problem. We advice you to keep this folder until you’re sure that everything works properly after you upgrade Windows (even with the newest version of Windows 10).

The Recycle BinLocation: shell:RecycleBinFolder

The Recycle Bin is a special folder, which is protected by Windows while appearing on your “C:\” drive, and you do not have to access it in this way. Windows sends a file to your recycling box whenever you delete a file on your system. This is a special place to keep deleted files until you delete or restore them permanently.

Although this could be obvious to you, if some aren’t aware, we’re including it. You can easily forget that gigabytes of old information can be found in your recycle bin

The Recycle Bin is accessible by the desktop shortcut. Type shell:RecycleBinFolder in a browser bar in File Explorer if you don’t see it. Here once, all you have deleted recently will be seen.

Right-click the items and select Delete them or Restore them to send them back to their original place. On the top of the Ribbon Bin Tools tab, you can view Empty Recycle Bin buttons and all items will be restored at once.

Click here on Properties of Recycle Bin to modify the way the bin works. On this list you can choose whether to move files to the Recycle Bin or to change the maximum size of the bin.

Downloaded Program FilesLocation: C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files

The name of this folder is a bit perplexing. It actually contains files that have ActiveX and Java controls on Internet Explorer, and therefore you don’t have to download it twice if you use the same feature on a website.

This folder is actually useless today. ActiveX is a highly obsolete technology, which is filled with security holes and Java is almost gone on the web today. Internet Explorer is the only browser to support ActiveX, and now (if ever) you will probably only find ActiveX on old websites.

The majority of home users no longer use IE or ActiveX alone. You might already have your folder Downloaded Program Files empty but you can clear it if it isn’t. If you don’t.

LiveKernelReportsLocation: C:\Windows\LiveKernelReports

Another directory that is likely to appear when you scan for large files in your computer is the folder LiveKernelReports. This folder contains dump files that are currently kept by Windows. If there is a problem with your computer, you may start scaning for your problem by analyzing the contents of these files.

Any enormous files in this folder that end with the DMP extension are safe to delete. However, like above, instead of deleting the file yourself, we recommend that you use the Disk Cleanup.

Do not immediately delete these dump files when Windows crashes or you have other major computer problems. To get more information, you can use a program like WhoCrashed.

You can delete these Windows Folders

It takes a bit of a look, but Windows holds plenty of unnecessary files and folders. Keep in mind that it is a very good job of your computer that it keeps itself clean, so that the content of those folders is not obsessively removed unless you are really low in disk space.

The Disk Cleanup tool should be run once or twice a month, so that the cruft remains remote. Try to uninstall some unnecessary Windows software if you still have much space to release.
