BAE Systems Australia has announced the STRIX unmanned aerial vehicle. The presentation took place at Avalon Airshow 2023.
What is known
BAE says the STRIX is the first all-Australian drone. It was designed, built and armed by Canberra. The height is 2.6 meters and the width is 4.5 meters. The drone is built according to the tandem aerodynamic scheme, when the lifting force is provided by a pair of approximately identical wings located one behind the other.

STRIX can take off and land vertically, so long runways are not required for launch. The maximum range is 497 miles (800 km) and the payload weight is 160 kg.

BAE Systems Australia said it will develop a new low-cost precision-guided munition specifically for the drone. If everything goes according to plan, the drone will be put into service in 2026.
