In the Kerala circle BSNL launched its Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service. The service is currently available in selected cities such as Ernakulam, Alappuzha, and Thrissur, on a trial basis. The trial duration runs from 27 August-31 October. BSNL may extend this service to more circles after the trial.
BSNL have reportedly partnered with Bhoomika Digital and Cinesoft to get its IPTV service off the ground. Cinesoft will act as the technology partner for BSNL, while Bhoomika Digital is the provider of content for this initiative.
For instance, the service will deliver more than 300 channels, of which 150 are free air (FTA) channels. The channels mainly span Malayalam, Tamil, English, and Hindi. BSNL IPTV subscribers can use the Android Box, Android TV, and mobile service.
The state-owned telecommunication operator is rolling out IPTV services through the Bharat Fiber network. BSNL is providing an early bird deal for subscribers who sign up for IPTV before September 10, as reported by TelecomTalk. With the deal, consumers can watch all FTA channels for one month without any additional charges.
BSNL haven’t yet released the exact IPTV packages. However, going through a tweet on the handle of the Twitter Association of Sanchar Nigam Executives, the packages would be “user friendly.” We can learn more about the packages after 2 months, once the service exits the trial process.
If you are from one of the aforementioned towns, you can sign up from the BSNL portal for the service. The method includes sending phone number, email address and mobile number to Bharat Fiber. As of this writing, the page doesn’t seem to be live but it should be going live soon.
