Hypersonic missiles have appeared in the arsenal of Chinese H-6K nuclear bombers. Strategic aviation aircraft with new weapons began to fly around Taiwan.
What is known
Previously, the H-6K had only used the KD-20 long-range subsonic missiles and the YJ-12 supersonic missiles against ships. Bombers can now launch YJ-21 hypersonic missiles.
China showed the YJ-21 at the end of last year during the air show in the city of Zhuhai. Outwardly, it resembles the Russian Kh-42M hypersonic / aeroballistic missile, which, in fact, is an air-launched Iskander ballistic missile.
YJ-21 has larger overall dimensions in comparison with the Russian development. The Chinese hypersonic missile can reach speeds of up to Mach 10 (more than 12,000 km/h). The maximum launch range is over 2000 km.
The hypersonic missile is about 9 meters long and weighs up to 1 ton. For guidance, the Chinese Beidou navigation system is used, paired with an active radar homing head.
