Use Companion Mode in Google Meet

Google Meet Companion mode lets users join meetings on their companion devices, with audio disabled by default to prevent feedback. Video is turned off by default, but can be turned on to draw attention when speaking.

One of the reasons why Google Meet is very exciting for someone like me who doesn’t like the video and audio quality of their computer as this allows me to use my phone for video and audio purposes and my laptop for other stuff such as jotting down important notes or presenting my PPT.

Why can be done with Google Meet Companion Mode?

When using Companion Mode, you may wonder what activities you can engage in on your second screen. The screen appears similar to a typical Google Meet session, except for the absence of participant tiles.

If you prefer not to use the chat feature, there are other options available to you. You will find a message in the center of the screen indicating various activities you can participate in, such as sharing your screen, hosting a presentation, raising your hand, and joining a virtual whiteboard. These are only a few examples of what you can do. Additional features include enabling closed captioning, sharing emojis, and sharing a video feed for remote participants.

Premium features are also available, such as breakout rooms, polls, and recording meetings. Although it is possible to access these features on your primary screen, using the second screen makes it easier to interact with other meeting participants while avoiding audio feedback from your mic or camera.
