  1. Restart your computer
  2. Run Audio troubleshooter
  3. Run Audio Check in HP Support Assistant
  4. Update or reinstall the Audio Device driver
  5. Update or reinstall the Sound controller driver
  6. Disable Audio enhancement
  7. Update the BIOS
  8. Contact HP customer support

1] Restart your computer

There is a possibility that your HP laptop sound is not working on a Windows PC due to temporary glitches. Restarting your computer can fix temporary glitches. Restart your computer and check if it brings any changes.

2] Run the Audio troubleshooter

The built-in Audio troubleshooter of Windows PC can fix several audio issues. You can run the Audio Troubleshooter by using the Get Help app. This troubleshooter is an automated app that will help you resolve the issue. Once you launch it, you will be asked some questions. Select the right answer based on the issue you are experiencing.

3] Run Audio Check in HP Support Assistant

If the Audio troubleshooter does not fix the issue. You can also run the Audio check in the HP Support Assistant. HP offers an application called HP Support Assistant that can diagnose and fix audio and laptop issues. To do so, use the below steps:

  • On your HP Windows search type HP Support Assistant and open it.
  • Click on the My Dashboard tab and click Fixes & Diagnostics.
  • Click on the Fix audio issues. Click Next, and wait until the audio test is complete.
  • Review the test results on the audio and microphone diagnostic results sections, and then click Test Audio.
  • If you do not hear the sound properly, click Unable to Hear Audio and then follow the on-screen instructions.

4] Update or reinstall the Audio Device driver

An outdated or corrupted driver can cause a sound problem. Make sure your Audio Device driver is up to date. You can download the latest audio device driver from the manufacturer’s website. Once you install the latest audio device driver, restart your laptop and check if the issue persists.

If updating the Audio device driver does not fix the issue. You can also try reinstalling the audio driver.

To do so, expand the Audio inputs and outputs node in the Device Manager and then right-click on the audio device driver, depending on your manufacturer. Select Uninstall device. Restart your computer to reinstall your Audio device driver.

5] Update or reinstall the Sound controller driver

Audio issues can also occur due to a corrupted sound card driver. We suggest you update or reinstall the Sound controller driver. You can download the latest sound controller driver from the manufacturer’s website. After downloading, install the Sound controller driver and restart your device.

If updating the Sound controller driver does not fix the issue. You can also try reinstalling the audio driver, based on the manufacturer, like the Realtek audio driver. To do so use the following instructions:

Reinstall the audio driver

  • Go to the Device Manager.
  • Expand the Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Select your Sound controller device and right-click on the Sound controller driver.
  • Click on Uninstall device.

Restart your computer to reinstall your Sound controller driver. Alternatively, you can Scan for hardware changes by clicking the Action tab.

6] Disable Audio enhancement

It could be possible that the audio enhancement feature is creating the sound problem. In this case, we suggest you disable the audio enhancement. To confirm whether this is the case with you, disable this feature. Use the below instructions to disable this feature:

  • Open the Control Panel.
  • Type sound in the Control Panel search bar and click Sound.
  • The Sound properties window will appear—Double-click on your Speakers to open its Properties.
  • Click on the Advanced tab and uncheck the Enable audio enhancement box.

7] Update the BIOS
