The Indonesian Air Force will receive a dozen Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters. The aircraft will be purchased from Qatar.

What is known

The fourth-generation French-made fighters will be deployed at the Supadio airbase in Pontanak on the west coast of Kalimantan. The 1st Squadron of the Indonesian Air Force is stationed here, which is armed with BAE Hawk 109 and Hawk 209 aircraft.

The deal amounted to $795.14 million. The Czech company Excalibur International will become an intermediary. Indonesia is buying nine single-seat and three two-seat Mirage 2000-5EDA and Mirage 2000-5DDA fighters from Qatar, respectively.

Under the terms of the agreement, the aircraft will be delivered within two years from the date of signing the contract. The deal also includes the delivery of 14 power plants, three years of support, crew training and the transfer of ground equipment.

Indonesia once wanted to buy Russian Su-35 fighter jets. However, after the sanctions that were imposed on Russia, the Asian country turned to France, and at the beginning of last year ordered six of the potentially 42 Rafale aircraft. The first batch of three fighters will be delivered in 2026.

Now the Indonesian Air Force has two squadrons of F-16 Fighting Falcon and one squadron of Su27 / 30. At the same time, the country’s authorities are working to order upgraded F-15EX Eagle II fighters.
