Porting to Jio Postpaid Users Carry Forward Credit Cap, Do Not Need to Pay Security Deposit

-

Reliance Jio is offering subscribers of rival operators the option to switch to any of its new plans without losing their credit limit a few weeks after revamping its postpaid offerings with the Postpaid Plus launch. “In a press release today , the company said that when switching from a rival carrier to Jio, consumers would be able to” carry forward (their) credit limit.

As part of the plan, Jio would not be expected to pay any security deposit to postpaid subscribers, something that recently generated a bit of a controversy when TRAI announced that the company is levying such a fee despite not explicitly mentioning it on its website.

An Important announcement from Jio:

To take advantage of the new offer, from the number they wish to port, people who want to port to Jio need to send a ‘Hi’ on WhatsApp to 88501-88501. They will then be asked to confirm with their current carrier their existing credit limit. Once confirmed, the customer can either pick up their Jio SIM from any Jio store or deliver it home within 24 hours.

It should be noted that the deal is restricted to postpaid customers (competitors, i.e. Vi and Airtel) who have an active credit cap with their current carrier. Everybody else, whether new users or folks who are porting their prepaid numbers to a postpaid plan, will still be required to pay the deposit.

Reliance Jio revealed last month a revamped postpaid portfolio with a number of new plans ranging from Rs. 399 to Rs. 1,499 as a reminder. Marketed as ‘ Postpaid Plus’, the latest plans come with a range of extra perks.

Including access to streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ Hotstar.
