Since the release of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung has been actively promoting the Space Zoom mode for shooting the moon. However, a Reddit user found out that the manufacturer “fakes” images of the moon to make them look more colorful and realistic.

As part of his “investigation,” the user took a regular picture of the moon from the Internet, reduced it to a size of 170×170 pixels, and opened it on another device. But he didn’t stop there either: he enlarged the picture so that it was blurry, and turned off the light in the room. After that, he took a photo on a Samsung smartphone in Space Zoom mode.
As a result, the flagship produced not a blurry photo, but a high-quality, detailed shot.
As it turned out, Samsung uses artificial intelligence, which draws the details. This neural network was trained on a large number of photographs of the moon – from full to crescent. Therefore, she knows how to add those elements that the camera sensor cannot catch.
