Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 888, offering a first look at their next-generation flagship smartphone processor. The 888 processor will power Flagship mobiles from Samsung, OnePlus, LG, Sony, and more on 2021
The Snapdragon 888 is a 5nm processor and this one comes with an integrated modem and the 3rd generation 5nm Snapdragon X60 5G, unlike Qualcomm’s previous 800 series 5G processors. Qualcomm says the new modem brings global 5G compatibility for mmWave and sub-6 bands across the globe. Also it supports multi-SIM, SA and NSA, and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing global networks.
The new 6th-gen AI Engine also comes with the flagship processor. The hexagon processor, 26 tera operations per second (TOPS) compared to the last generation, brings a considerable leap in AI performance. It also comes with a Qualcomm Sensing Hub 2nd generation that “incorporates low-power always-on AI processing for intuitive intelligent functionality.”
In addition to the 5G improvements, Qualcomm also made several other improvements to the Snapdragon 888, including the sixth-generation AI Engine of the company (running on a “re-designed” Qualcomm Hexagon processor), which guarantees a big jump in AI tasks’ performance and power efficiency. The Snapdragon 888 will also feature the most significant upgrade in Qualcomm Adreno GPU performance,” although it has yet to be confirmed what kind of improvements are coming.
