An IT specialist from the Rostov region received three years in a colony-settlement for attacking government sites

In Rostov, IT specialist Yevgeny Kotikov was convicted for helping Ukraine in DDoS attacks on the information resources of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the website of the President of the Russian Federation, the press service of the regional FSB reports.

“Officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Rostov Region documented and suppressed the criminal activities of an IT specialist involved in a computer DDoS attack organized by the Ukrainian side on the information systems of subjects of the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation,” the report says.

It is specified that Yevgeny Kotikov began his criminal activities in February 2022. He acted as a supporter of the Kyiv regime and decided to participate in blocking the information resources of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the website of the President of the Russian Federation.

The Rostov Regional Court found him guilty of “illegal influence on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation”, according to the criminal article 274.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The programmer was sentenced to three years in prison in a colony-settlement and fined 800,000 rubles in favor of the state.

The computer used by Kotikov in the crime was confiscated in favor of the state, the FSB said.

The decision of the court has entered into force.
