It has been one of the news of the week, and it is not for less: Google confirmed that it would start deleting accounts of users who had not been active over the last two years, and who would also delete all its content and data associated with them. Shortly after the announcement, doubts began to be raised about what would happen to those Google accounts with published YouTube videos that they had no activity, either because their user died, or simply because they stopped using said account.

And though everything seemed to indicate that, indeed YouTube videos from inactive accounts would also be removedGoogle wanted to rule on the matter to point out that those accounts with posted videos will not be removedand, therefore, the content will continue to be present on the video platform.

In the original announcement post, Google explained that “if a Google account has not been used for at least two years, we may delete the account and its content, including content from Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar), YouTube, and Google Photos.” Said publication has been correctedand a company spokesperson wanted to make it clear through his Twitter profile:

Remember that to prevent Google from deleting an account, simply access Gmail and read an email, watch a YouTube video, use Google Drive or Google Search, or do any other activity using said account through any device. Accounts that are not managed by companies or educational centers will not be affected by this change in strategy.

The first account deletions will begin in December 2023, and will be carried out gradually.
